Untangling a knot

Image made out of strips of material

This Pandemic lockdown has been for many a bit like a knot – restricting our movement. Today we find that those restrictions may have been lessened. Here in Glasgow, there’s a hiatus as we pause, yet again, for people to go into other’s houses. Across Strathclyde in general, people do have that freedom. It’s a bit like unpicking a knot. There seem to be many ways to tackle this, and often we spin it around and try once again – eventually there is that release – we hope and pray that the knot will eventually disappear.

How might you describe your feelings of the situation today?

Do you add chocolate or peanut butter to crisps? That might possibly help? It started our discussions today!

cross stitch

Here, above, is a picture made out of strips of material – but there are plenty of other ideas in the video. There were new projects started with cross stitch,

and new teddy bears made from recycled wool – and then stuffed with Capok.

We learnt about an amazing needle threader, called Infila!

We have made a sample book using a vintage tablecloth and then adding a range of alternative materials, such as plastic bags or nets or even bandage to make a difference to the texture. There’s a lot more detail shown in the video above.

We then discussed the recent reaction to Rangers winning the League, unbeaten throughout the season. It also posed questions about the different opportunities in Level 2 or 3 areas (Scotland use Levels whereas England use Tiers). It had limited or stooped people going on holiday and even could affect wedding plans. The social distance is 2m in churches whereas it is 1m in hotels – this might restrict people going to church for a service not due to the maximum numbers but due to social distancing.

Milly Molly Mandy

It was interesting to reminisce at the old books from our childhood: here is Milly Molly Mandy. We possibly see a Singer sewing machine, and Mum, Grandma and Great Grandma, all at home. There were other books mentioned such as: Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, Girls of Divine Corners, and Malory Towers.

What books bring a smile to you?
