Summer Creation

Not Van Gogh but by Helen of Partick

As Summer approaches – truly it really is! – we might look around at what people are creating to give us joy. Here’s a painting, one familiar to us, but with the initials NVG. We pondered about this until the artiste assured us that it stood for Not Van Gogh. The local galleries will be disappointed but as we gaze at the painting, we might consider what feelings it brings to the surface, of past memories perhaps of warm summer days. What summer creation might we bring to give joy to others?

It has been put on display in Partick Methodist Church to link with the colours of Ukraine.

In Uddingston, near to Glasgow, a post box has also been adorned, yarn bombed. There was also inspiration drawn from Knitting Nannas https://knitting-nannas.com.

Botanic Gardens

Just north of Partick lies Glasgow’s treasure, the Botanic Gardens. These are delightful place to spend an hour, in the hot house, in the cafe or just sitting and watching the world go by. There is a bench, just by the herb gardens, where this Summer creation inspired by a local artist Rita McGurn, has been ‘installed’. This yarn bomb creation is fully stitched onto the bench – no joins are seen here. It remains here for the summer months, and is a delight to behold, a joy for children and families alike.

What might we yarn bomb?

Can you Crochet?

Here we can see an initiative which started at such an early age. Despite the taunts they continue to bring joy through their artistry, their craft.

In the Church we used to have a policy entitled Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Well the title’s has changed to the Strategy for Justice, Dignity and Solidarity. At each church meeting it should be present within the agenda, not to fill up the time, but so that we identify those times when we erect barriers between us and others. Here is the latest Methodist Church policy: https://www.methodist.org.uk/…/jds-user-guide-a5…

What might this tell us?

Regardless of our age, our gender, we can control our emotions and feelings. Yes, God leads us but we have to follow. This little flow chart might help to encourage each and every one of us this day.

6. And thank God for all that we have and can bring to others.

It resembles Romans 5:1-5 in which we are encouraged to look for endurance from any of life’s sufferings, that it would change our character and this to lead to hope.
