The Strathclyde Knit & Knatter group have met again – and what might they talk about?
Complicated programming?
In this past few weeks of heat gardening has been the most popular activity – trying to keep the plants to survive! However some have been continuing to crochet. From my perspective some might say that they may not understand computer programming – but then listen again to these experts in knitting and crochet – they speak in a programming language!!
Lorne Sausage
As people arrive they bring the latest topic of conversation. Now who would now that the favourite request for those south of the border is to bring some Lorne Sausage from Scotland. It also forms part of a typical Scottish breakfast.
Now given my military background it looks very much like the Compo sausage which slid out of the square tin, or what Americans might describe as sausage albeit it looks more like a square burger. Nevertheless, as a vegetarian, I am told that the Lorne Sausage is a huge favourite – even for dogs!
As we get older?
A programme with Sue Perkins featured Japanese older ladies (click for the BBC iplayer link) who go out free diving every day, foraging food. These ladies were over 80 years old! What was their secret? You can say what you like to each other. and reach out to whomever for help. There was no stress as there were no barriers in this community.
You could also adopt a younger member for your family, mainly due to the Japanese culture of working especially hard that intimacy was possibly lacking. As the population grows older the wise-in-age fraternity were getting lonely.
It has also been cited that with this pandemic the older folk have welcomed the use of such social media as Zoom, FaceTime etc but have still struggled with isolation.
Car Free Island
One of us used to work, in a previous century, on Iona which has been declared as car free, except for some exceptions. It was also short of men. Which was the most worrying is still up for debate… The Abbey has been such a formative experience in people’s faith journey. Here’s a great webpage on Iona.
Shoogle?
On our learning experience we have learnt about scunnered and today it was Shoogle. So before you select the link, shuffle your bottom to the back of your chair… What is your favourite Scottish word?
Norwegian Handball Shorts
These players were fined because of their lower playing attire! What some might find unacceptable may not appreciate the benefit of using specific clothing. Running in baggy shorts may cover someone’s consideration of being acceptable but does that lose focus on the sheer ability of the players. Is it mysogyny trying to ensure that we play the tune of males watching the sport rather than focus upon the amazement of the man body and what limits we can take.
Congratulations
Our congratulations to those who are getting married in August! Many weddings have been delayed due to the Pandemic – but our love for each other has not dimmed at all. Lynne and Bill – our congratulations.
